Description of Tour Locations
the St. John the Theologian Monastery (Khreshchatyk Monastery).
The male Orthodox monastery of the Russian Orthodox Church in the territory of Northern Bukovina is located in above-ground temples and rock grottoes-caves. The beginning of the Khreshchatyk monastery in the 17th century was laid by Orthodox monks who fled from the Manyavsky skete from persecution. This place has been considered sacred since ancient times: archaeological excavations conducted here in the 1970s indicate the existence of ancient Slavic sanctuaries here. From the “monastery rock” a breathtaking panorama of Zalishchiki and the “Dniester Canyon” opens. You will have unforgettable photos from this place!
Dzhuryn waterfall
This is the highest plain waterfall in Ukraine (16 m), a hydrological natural monument of local importance. The name Chervonohorodsky comes from the name of the city with Magdeburg rights Chervonohorod, which was nearby several centuries ago. It is located between the villages of Nyrkiv and Ustechko, Zalishchytskyi district, Ternopil region, on the Dzhuryn River, which flows through the village of Ustechko and flows into the Dniester River. Near the waterfall you will see two high-rise towers, the only remains of a huge castle of the 17th century.
Chervonohorodsky Castle
A defensive structure near the disappeared city of Chervonohorod, rebuilt into a palace in the first half of the 19th century. The ruins are located in the Chervonoe tract near the village of Nyrkova, Zalishchytskyi district, Ternopil region, on a steep hill in the middle of a deep basin of the Dzhuryna River, which in this place forms an almost closed loop. The wooden castle was built by the Rus' princes. In 1241 it was destroyed by the Mongol-Tatars, but there is no mention of this in the Old Russian chronicles. Before World War I, the palace had an elegant terrace in the Italian style and a colonnade of 6 stone columns, and was surrounded by a large landscaped park with a fountain. During World War I, the palace suffered significant damage and was never rebuilt. World War II completed the destruction. Now only two, significantly damaged towers have survived. In April 2013, half of one of the towers collapsed. It is now the property of the Ternopil Eparchy of the Ukrainian Autonomous Orthodox Church.
