Chernivtsi Botanical Garden Chernivtsi Botanical Garden is one of the oldest botanical gardens in Ukraine, and also one of the smallest. Chernivtsi residents began to lay it by the decision of the Chernivtsi magistrate back in the Austro-Hungarian era, starting in 1877. The process lasted more than a decade. Today, the botanical garden is a scientific unit of Chernivtsi University and a nature reserve of national importance. Even now, at the entrance to the botanical garden, you can see a white poplar planted by the hands of Austrian professor Eduard Tangl, who headed the department of botany at the university and was the first director of the garden.

Under his leadership, the first plants for the Garden were imported from Austria. And previously, land was purchased where peasants kept pastures and vegetable gardens. The main direction of the botanical garden's activity was the relocation of various plant species to a new territory and their acclimatization. Today, you can find a variety of plants from East Asia, North America, and Southern Europe here. This is about five hundred plant species unusual for our territory. These native plantings occupy almost 5 hectares of the Garden's land. For their comfortable stay, a greenhouse more than 22 meters high was built here. Relict plants feel especially good under this high glass dome.

The Garden's greenhouse is home to more than nine hundred tropical plants. The Botanical Garden is proud of its date palms, cacti, of which there are 145 species, thirty-meter tulip trees, which are more than 150 years old, daffodils, irises and chrysanthemums, of which there are more than 70 species. As well as a variety of magnolias. This tree begins to bloom in mid-April. There are about 20 different varieties: holly-leaved magnolia, medicinal magnolia, Sulangja magnolia, Kobus magnolia. The age of some magnolias reaches 80 years. With proper care, a magnolia tree can live up to 100 years.

Not only magnolias bloom in the Botanical Garden. A real flower fairy tale reigns here. Traditionally, daffodils bloom in April. More than 70 varieties of these flowers create a magical clearing under the trees. The surrounding area is dominated by the delicate aroma of blooming daffodils mixed with the smell of spring rain. In spring, hyacinths, snowdrops, and spring white flowers also bloom in the Botanical Garden. More than 100 varieties of tulips grow in the Botanical Garden. The pride of the Garden is also a herbarium and a special laboratory in which scientific research is conducted. In 1963, the Botanical Garden was declared a nature conservation area.
